Veterans Administration Outpatient Clinic
This 184,000 square foot free-standing clinic is the largest of its type in the nation
When completed, the new Austin Outpatient Clinic will be three times larger than the current facility located at Montopolis Drive and Oltorf in Austin. With this additional space, the Austin Outpatient Clinic is slated to offer expanded VA services to Veterans in the Austin area, including Mammography, Gastroenterology, Imaging, Orthopedics, Urology and additional space for the Womens Clinic as well as all current services. Other services to be considered for future expansion are Chemotherapy, Ear Nose and Throat, General Surgery, and Oncology.
The target date for opening of the new building is the spring of 2013. The current 60,000 square-foot Austin Outpatient Clinic is located at 2901 Montopolis Drive and provides primary care, urgent care, and more than 20 areas of specialty of care.

300,000 square foot 8 year project; 5,000 person crew; environmentally friendly
Houston's first federal building since 1961, called the Emerald City or the Green Monster. The green glass outside keeps the temperatures inside about ten degrees cooler. The lighting works by motion sensors and air conditioning is more efficient since it comes from vents on the floor. The 300,000 square foot building means every local FBI task force is now under one roof. Also under the same roof: a state-of-the-art gym, crisis operation center, and a nurses station.Aside from the hi-tech features and the security, the most unique thing about this building may be the location. It's about 100 feet between the front gate and the front door, which creates a buffer other federal buildings don't have.
